Hating A Song

Have you ever been listening to the radio and on comes a song that you don’t like?
With a passion.
So much so that if you could eliminate this song from existence you would.
Sure there are evil people in the world.
Sick individuals.
Murderers, sociopaths, sadists.
There are plenty of them that could ruin the world as we know it.
But this song on the radio.
This three minute composition has to go.
The crazies can wait till later.
So what do you do as the song plays?
You criticize the song and its pathetic lyrics.
“Can you believe those are the lyrics?
What is he even saying?”
You mock the artist.
“This guy hasn’t been good in years.”
“In a few years no one will know this artist.”
If you are all really feeling good you mock modern pop music in general by stating the bubblegum repetitive genre is not “real” music.
You may even say a fun fact about the song demeaning the very music.
Something that sounds like, “Did you know this song samples (inset another song)?”
Or maybe, “This song sounds just like everything else.”
Of course it does.
Don’t they all?
You may even strike the song with a low bow if the artist in it doesn’t play an instrument.
Which is just a bush-league move.
It’s like a flop in soccer.
The move is not needed.
Sure it may help you.
But come on.
You hate the song.
And you make it very well known to all those who listen, and ignore, you.
And if no one listens to you then you just write on your blog or make a video about the worst three minutes of your life.
And of course you have to say that you want those minutes back.
Because you haven’t wasted any part of your life so far.
Not at all.
So what happens later in the day?
What song are you humming as the sun goes down?
What song is in your head?
What song are you caught singing to yourself?
That song that you hate so much of course.
But if anyone asks you hate the song.
It is the worst song ever.
Just not when you are singing it.

Admit it, you sang the song in the shower.

Admit it, you sang the song in the shower.
